BETH  COX   STEPHENS

ABOUT ME

Beth Cox Stephens is a painter based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She uses acrylics to capture her dreams on canvas. She seeks out sunlight and beauty and finds the most playful ways to observe the modern world.

Stephens uses vibrant colors to make artwork that’s full of whimsy and wonder.   Her colorful creations bring happiness and light to everyday life.  Her work gives you permission to daydream and invites you to have fun.  Stephens explores ways to escape the expectations that society puts on people.

Before becoming an artist Stephens was an elementary school teacher.  Teaching made her realize how much society pushes to standardize people into predetermined shapes while categorizing them by test score. She wants to show that we all have a variety of valuable skills other than just what we were tested on as children. Everyone has value and talent to share with the world.

CHARLOTTE  SHOUT!

In the spring of 2025, Beth Cox Stephens was one of 13 artist's chosen for Charlotte Shout! Festival's Eggs on Parade exhibit in Uptown Charlotte, NC.

My egg focused on the endangered animal, Komodo dragons. I love that fairy tale dragons are magical creatures that don’t exist, but Komodo dragons are real. When I found out about them as a kid it made me feel like magic is all around us if we pay attention.
